Tech giant Google has updated its policy to allow the advertising of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its platforms. This change shows a shift in the company’s approach to crypto-related content and recognizes the increasing importance of NFTs in gaming and digital assets.

Since March 2018, Google had strict restrictions on promoting cryptocurrency content. However, due to the rising popularity of NFTs and NFT gaming platforms, the company decided to revise its policies and take a more nuanced approach to crypto and blockchain advertising.

One significant change is that Google now permits advertisements for NFT games with in-game purchases. This gives developers the opportunity to reach a wider audience and promote their NFT games. By integrating NFTs into the gaming experience, players can own unique digital assets and trade them on various platforms.

It’s important to note that not all NFT-related content is eligible for advertising on Google’s platforms. NFT casino games and social betting systems involving NFTs, cash, or cryptocurrencies are still prohibited. Google aims to balance the potential of NFTs with responsible advertising practices.

The updated policy also requires developers and publishers to obtain Google Ads certification to advertise gambling-related content with NFTs. This ensures that advertisers understand the regulations and guidelines for gambling advertisements.

Furthermore, Google explicitly prohibits promoting real money gambling destinations through ads. The company wants to maintain a safe and trustworthy advertising environment while embracing the possibilities of NFTs in the gaming industry.

The decision to allow NFT gaming ads starting from September 15 demonstrates Google’s recognition of the growing importance of NFTs in gaming and digital assets. By lifting restrictions, Google supports the development and promotion of NFT games, providing a platform for developers to showcase their creations to a wider audience.

This policy shift by Google’s parent company, Alphabet, shows their commitment to adapting to the changing crypto landscape. The company’s willingness to reassess and update its policies reflects the increasing acceptance and mainstream appeal of NFTs and blockchain technology.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Google has revised its stance on crypto-related advertising. In June 2021, certain crypto-related companies targeting the United States were allowed to advertise on the platform, indicating a more inclusive approach.

By embracing NFTs and recognizing their potential in the gaming industry, Google positions itself as a key player in the evolving crypto landscape. With Google’s advertising platforms, advertisers and developers can reach a broader audience and drive the growth of the NFT gaming market.
