The online gambling market in the Netherlands has seen an impressive increase in 2022, surpassing expectations and previous records. Net gaming revenue (NGR) has risen by an astounding 85% compared to the previous year, totaling €3.4 billion. Online operators have played a crucial role in driving the market’s expansion, with their ads accounting for a significant 40.9% of total spending. This increase in advertising expenditure reflects the intensifying competition in the market and the operators’ efforts to attract new customers.
One standout sector in the Netherlands’ online gambling market is casino games, which have generated an impressive €1.9 billion in NGR, representing a staggering 56% of the licensed market share. The popularity of online casino games is evident, with spending on these games contributing to 23% of the market share.
Sports betting has also experienced a substantial surge, with NGR reaching €319 million in 2022, marking a phenomenal 262.5% increase. However, despite this remarkable growth, sports betting remains a relatively smaller segment in the country, capturing only 9% of the market share.
