Macau Revenues Down By Over 63% For January
Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, the regulator for gaming has released its monthly figures for January showing a fall in revenues by 63.7% to just over $1 billion compared to the same period in 2020.
However the slightly better news is that January showed an increase from the previous month in revenues by 2.6%.
The continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the reduced numbers in VIP players has continued to weigh down figures for the world’s largest gambling hub.
Mass market players were said to be holding up well but the test will come in the next reporting cycle for February when the Chinese New Year takes place between 11th till 17th February. This is traditionally one of the busiest periods for Macau operators in the year.
However some regions in China have advised their citizens not to travel to Macau this year for the celebrations.
