The old Hellinikon airport that will be transformed into a tourist location

The Greek government has finally announced officially the winner of the a luxury casino resort in Athens to be built on the site of the former Athens international airport called Hellenikon.

As known since January this year Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment and its local developer partner Lamda have been announced as the winner of the development that will take place on the former airport which is said to be costing $9.5 billion in total and will see a huge assortment of hotels, leisure, residential and business outlets.

Because of the impact of the pandemic the announcement by the government has been delayed and it still has to pass official audit inspection and a vote through parliament before it can sign on the dotted line.

Building work was expected to start this year but will most likely begin in early 2021 on a development once completed will create over 7,000 jobs.
