Promotional Email Sent To Self-Exclude Gamblers By Flutter Company

Online gambling brand Sky Vegas which is owned by Flutter Entertainment has reportedly sent out promotional emails to former customers who opted out of receiving promotions and marketing material as they were deemed to be recovering or at risk gamblers.

The email which was sent out this week during the industries Safer Gambling Week is a real shot in the foot for the company and for the message the industry is trying to promote to regulators, government and the general public on the perception of the sector.

But the Gambling Commission is now investigating the breach by Sky Vegas which the company has already apologised for in promoting their gambling products such as online roulette, blackjack and slots.

According to a report by one recovering gambler who received the email it said in the subject line: “Take a peek at what your mystery bonus is.” And then went on to say “Here at Sky Vegas, we love the unexpected. That’s right. Simply opt in, spend £5 and claim your 100 free spins. The best part? Whatever you win is yours to keep – that’s the fun in fair!”

The email was apparently sent to all its customers along with gamblers who has signed up to the “self-exclude scheme run by Gamstop.

Conservative MP and a supporter of stronger regulations against the industry, Iain Duncan Smith said the “utterly shocking” incident showed the industry could not be trusted to improve safer gambling protections voluntarily.

“People who are trying to stop and make sure they don’t get sucked deeper into the vortex of debt are targeted. It’s outrageous. It shows us that self-regulation doesn’t work any longer for them.

“How often is this happening? Can they ensure it doesn’t happen again? This is very dangerous, we’re talking about people’s lives.”
